Saturday 29 October 2022 – All night Vigil by Rachmaninov sung at Portsmouth Cathedral and conducted by Peter Gambie

Following the performance Peter wrote to choir members – here are some of his heartfelt remarks:

There were so many marvellous moments which the two choirs produced together but the most important was a matched musicality between both groups.

Without doubt, PCU is a group of fine singers. David has brought together excellent voices who understand that going the extra mile when practising is essential, in a choir of rare quality. He has instilled in you the discipline of watching a conductor and also responding to the nuances from the podium.

We were ‘in the music’ together, knowing the mind of Rachmaninoff. It’s a real privilege to reach that nirvana state, the true heart of musicality.

A colleague in the audience commented “Tour de force. A super performance beyond compare – 80 minutes of sensitive, intense, unaccompanied singing – from ppp to fffff.”
